The Sound of Music

A classic musical enjoyed by the whole family has come to Barstow Community College.

Enter the enchanting world of The Sound of Music, set against the backdrop of pre-World War II Austria. Follow Maria, a spirited young woman who takes on the role of governess for the von Trapp family, comprised of seven lively children. As Maria introduces joy and music into their structured lives, a special bond forms between her and the children, as well as with Captain von Trapp.

This final collaboration between Rodgers & Hammerstein, brimming with beloved songs such as “Climb Ev’ry Mountain,” “My Favorite Things,” “Do-Re-Mi,” and “Sixteen Going on Seventeen,” captured the hearts of audiences worldwide. Based on Maria Augusta Trapp's memoir, the story portrays a lively postulant bringing music and happiness to the von Trapp household.

However, as the specter of war looms over Austria, Maria and the entire von Trapp family face a moral crossroads. The Sound of Music, celebrated with five Tony Awards and five Oscars, remains a timeless classic that continues to resonate with audiences, blending laughter, love, and unforgettable melodies into a captivating tale. So, prepare to be swept away as the hills come alive with The Sound of Music!
